Rotary One Makeup Opportunity

Greg Russell

1) What did you have to do to earn a make up? Go to the website and select a topic to review.
2) Approximately how long did you spend ‘making up’ with this club? 30 -45 minutes
3) How does our club get notified? You can print out a make up form and hand to the secretary.
4) Was it a ‘meaningful’ experience (would you do it again)? Yes. I have used several times and have found the subjects I reviewed to be informative.

You go to their site, on the drop down menu pick a topic, read the article or some cases watch a streaming video, go to the drop down for “Makeup Request” answer a few questions, and they will email you a makeup ticket. The site will ask you to make a contribution equivalent to a make up, but that is not required.

The site looks something like this:

I have used it a few times. You only have to read a short article and then answer questions at the end as to how useful and practical their web site is and what you enjoyed about the article. It takes 10-15 minutes but they like for you to stay on 30 to view their site. That is another question you have to answer. The questions at the end are forwarded to our club for attendance and the member can print a copy for verification. It is not a bad experience especially if you are in a jam to make up. Its interesting to see articles of what other clubs are doing or some have had to do with self help or time management etc...

I have used it once. The basic premise is that you have a series of articles to choose from under key topics. You read the article and then answer a series of questions. It appears that there is an automated feature that let's your club know that you have completed the make-up but I also emailed a copy of the document to Nancy.

It look me between 30 and 35 minutes and was an okay experience if used sparingly. It does not replace the fellowship of being in your own club or
visiting another club to interact with different members.

I have used E-Rotary 3-4 times and it is great! Many at the downtown club use it regularly. Here's the answers:

1. I read an article from a particular e-meeting (several from which to choose), filled out a form on-line (very easy) and answered a couple of questions related to the program. You do have to know the name of our club and our district number to fill out the form correctly.

2. You can spend anywhere from 15 - 30 minutes depending on how long it takes you to read the article (program) and fill out the form.

3. Two ways - one is you submit the form on-line and the club gets notified. You can also print out the make-up form and turn it in at our next meeting. I have always done this as a back-up.

4. It actually is a meaningful experience. There are many program options, most of which are quite informative. There is something for everyone. You can also get new ideas for our club. I would highly recommend it and yes, I do plan to do it again! It's not as good as going to an actual club meeting, but it is very convenient and worth your time as a means to make up.

The choice to use this process is yours. The makeup is "legal" with Rotary and represents yet another opportunity for each Rotary member to continue to maintain a good attendance record.
